the last of the summer flowers

Finally we had a night of frost. Up to now, to the 24th November, there were late summer flowers blooming in the garden: dahlias and gladioles, next to the  roses.

The photo is the last gladiola, which started to bloom after I returned from Mallorca. Now it feels, summer is indeed finally over.

And some flower quotes:

“The earth laughs in flowers.”
― Ralph Waldo Emerson

“I will be the gladdest thing under the sun!
I will touch a hundred flowers and not pick one.”
― Edna St. Vincent Millay

“A garden to walk in and immensity to dream in–what more could he ask? A few flowers at his feet and above him the stars.”
― Victor Hugo, Les Misérables
