an achievement, or: this is to have succeeded…

The new photo challenge made me ponder. it said: “Have you just run 26.2 miles, finished a long-term project, or met a personal goal? This week, show us an achievement!”

How to define achievement? Here’s the stream of contributions so far: “Achievement”

For me, it’s about transformation, about growing. About taking steps into the unknown. Like in the photo above: going on a journey alone, and stepping into another hemisphere.

And a quote, to continue the pondering:

“To laugh often and much; To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; To appreciate beauty, to find the best in others; To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.”
– Ralph Waldo Emerson
