surface phenomenon

refratcion2

a refraction moment, from taking a “Tretboot” – one of this fun pedalling plastic boats on a river, for the current “Refraction” challenge

for this challenge, i checked the definiton after reading the  challenge page: “Refraction is the change in direction of a wave due to a change in its transmission medium. Refraction is essentially a surface phenomenon.”

looking for a quote, i found this one from Tolkien that is going under the surface:

“Man, Sub-creator, the refracted light
through whom is splintered from a single White
to many hues, and endlessly combined
in living shapes that move from mind to mind.
Though all the crannies of the world we filled
with Elves and Goblins, though we dared to build
Gods and their houses out of dark and light,
and sowed the seed of dragons, ’twas our right
(used or misused). The right has not decayed.
We make still by the law in which we’re made.”

  1. I liked this – the picture and the thoughts/reflections. I’d never heard of a tretboot before but I remember learning about refraction in high school physics lessons. Thanks for posting the piece from Tolkien – I didn’t know of it before – wow!
